sometimes i think about how sam was originally going to be the one to get dean out of hell
and then i weep
I will never stop being bitter about this. I honestly believe the decision to not stick to Kripke’s original plan was the beginning of the end, the start of a shift in storytelling. Sam was not allowed to save his brother, and Dean was not allowed to be the one to redeem him from Azazel’s influence. Suddenly, it’s not about Sam and Dean doing things — it’s about things happening to them. Sam and Dean get downgraded to vessels for higher beings, start relying more and more on Bobby’s endless font of knowledge (even though they’re the ones that were raised as hunters) and Castiel’s magical time travel/healing powers/memory wipes. They became passive agents in their own fucking story. When I think about what might have been, what should have been, I just want to fall to my knees and scream.
